Say that really fast and you may get tongue-tied!! French Foliage is the stamp set from the Holiday Mini catalog that I chose as my favorite for my Fabulous Friday fall scrapbook page.
This week on the Sisters in Stamping blog we all got to create projects using our favorite new Holiday Mini catalog sets. This one is by far my favorite!! I love fall - the colors (reds, oranges, yellows, browns), the crispness of the air (after a swelteringly hot summer, we welcome the departure of humidity!), the smells (apples, burning leaves)... what could be better?
And this project served a two-fold purpose, not only was it my submission for Fabulous Friday, but it also served as one of the two 12" x 12" scrapbook layouts this month for my Scrapbook Club.
I chose the colors cajun craze, more mustard, night of navy and chocolate chip along with naturals ivory card stock to create the page. A 3" x 12" strip of naturals ivory card stock was stamped all over using the various images from this set to create a collage background. I also did this on a quarter sheet of naturals ivory card stock to use with the Leaves #2 originals die for the Big Shot and on a piece for my title (although I used 2nd and 3rd generation stamping for the title panel since I wanted the "fall" to really stand out). In addition, on the background of the title piece I also used the En Francais background stamp with crumb cake instead of using the night of navy with the script image from the French Foliage stamp set. The "fall" title was stamped with the Schoolbook Serif alphabet stamp set with chocolate chip ink. Afterwards, I sponged both the border strip and title panel with chocolate chip ink. To add some texture to this piece I wrapped some linen thread around it and secured it in the middle with a cajun craze brad from the regals collection.
Here is a photo above of the quarter sheet piece after the leaves were cut out so you can see my collage (sorry, forgot to take a photo of the "before" piece).
They were still a little plain so I decided to use my Big Shot with the Square Lattice embossing folder to give them some texture.
Again, they still needed something so I sponged each with cajun craze ink to make them pop. See the difference? I must say that these little Stampin' Sponges are one of my favorite accessories that we sell and they are very inexpensive - you get 3 round sponges for $3.50 and these can be cut up into 6 wedges each for a total of 18!! If you take a round tab punch and punch out the color card stock to match the sponge ink color you can use them over and over and over again. I keep them in a case with my reinkers, sorted by color collection, along with the coordinating sponge daubers.
Here's a close-up of one of the leaves on my page... I think the extra steps I took adding texture and sponging made quite a difference and I really love how this page turned out. Now I have to get some good fall photos of my kids to put onto my page!
