Every weekend my Design Team member Sherri Gough finds a sketch and color challenge to issue to my downline and then we share what we create - it's meant to spark inspiration and get us to step outside of our comfort zones. I haven't been able to participate much this summer, but was finally able to make a card last weekend using August 13th's challenges. I combined both the sketch and color combo onto one card and wanted to share it with you.
This is the sketch Sherri chose - it was a Thursday Sketch from back in December on the Stamp TV site.
The color combination comes from KWernerDesign's color choice from back in June. Since pale plum has now retired and we don't have a light purple color, Sherri asked us to substitute perfect plum for the lighter purple.
Here is the card I designed... it features an image and sentiment from the Herb Expressions stamp set. I stamped the image using chocolate chip ink and then colored the basil flowers with my perfect plum marker. The leaves are colored with old olive and certainly celery inks using a blender pen. The card stock ovals were cut out using my Big Shot in very vanilla and elegant eggplant and the mat behind that is a certainly celery piece of card stock that was run through the Big Shot with the finial press impressions folder. I stamped the sentiment on the chocolate chip card stock mat using my white StazOn ink and the 3 brads are old olive ones from the brights collection. I finished the card with some very vanilla satin ribbon. So what do you think? I think I did it - all the colors were used and I stayed pretty close to the sketch!
For even more inspiration, here's a link to my sister Cindy's blog with her card that she created with this weekend sketch challenge.
Thanks for looking - I struggled a little with so many colors but managed to use them all in the end. I like this sketch and will try and use it again. Why don't you give it a try? Send me a link to your blog if you do or email me a picture of your stamped project if you don't have a blog - I'd love to see what you come up with! Have a wonderful weekend and try to fit some stamping time in if you can.
