This week on the Sisters in Stamping blog it is my turn to host and I chose masculine cards as my theme for Fabulous Friday. These seem to be the hardest ones for me and I always need them so I thought it would be a good source of inspiration for us all!
When I think of masculine projects I think of texture and darker colors - so I went with a fall theme. Each layer of this card has a different texture... can you guess them all?
For the main panel, the leaf image from the French Foliage stamp set was colored directly with more mustard, cajun craze and bravo burgundy watercolor crayons and then I misted the watercolor paper with water using our new spritzers right before I stamped it. This allowed the pigmented ink to bleed and blend together. After it dried I added the script image with crumb cake ink and the splats with soft suede ink. That panel was added to a soft suede card stock mat and it was layered atop a more mustard card stock piece that had been run through the Big Shot with the Houndstooth impressions folder (more texture!).
For the cajun craze base card I simply took my cajun craze ink pad and rubbed it directly on the card stock to give it some character and a faux textured look. To create the soft suede strip behind the main panel, I took a scrap piece of 1" x 6" wide soft suede card stock and crumpled it carefully (so it wouldnt' tear) until I achieved a nice wrinkly leather-like texture. You want to start with a piece that is longer than you actually need because it will shrink a bit in the process. I then adhered it to the base card and snipped off the overhanging ends.
I struggled with whether or not to add ribbon, but decided in the end that the stitched ribbon added a nice texture, too, so it was put on with a simple knot. For my sentiment I used the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set and punched out the words with my word window punch. The curved ends didn't work so I just snipped them off... easy-peasey!
I love the way my card turned out with all the different layers of texture and hope you do, too. For even more inspiration featuring masculine cards, please be sure and hop on over to the Sisters in Stamping blog today after Noon EST. Thanks for visiting and I hope to see you back soon! I'll be sharing the Christmas card swaps I got at my team meeting last night. Have a wonderful weekend!
